Asparagus lettuce (Celtuce) "Svetlana" - Lactuca sativa var. angustana.
Mid-season - when harvesting green leaves (70 days), late-season - when harvesting stems (93 days).
The rosette is horizontal, up to 95 cm high, formed from 50-70 light green oblong leaves.
The mass of leaves from one plant is about 600 grams, the edible mass of the stem is - about 200 g.
The nutritional value of the leaves is four times higher than that of head lettuce, and the stems compete with asparagus and celery. The stem is consumed fried, stewed, or boiled, and is prepared for future use (salted, pickled, dried, frozen). The variety is cold-resistant, high-yielding, and suitable for winter storage.
Agrotechnology.
To obtain early production, seeds are sown for seedlings, and 30-day-old seedlings are planted in open ground in May. For winter storage, seeds are sown in open ground from late May to late June. Asparagus lettuce is moisture-loving and grows well on fertile neutral loamy soils. Before the onset of autumn frosts, the plants are uprooted, the leaves on the lower parts of the stem are trimmed (leaving 2-3), and they are placed in storage.
